In 2018, when it comes to developing mobile apps, or we’ll see new trends or an excellent update of what users are already using. Before addressing these trends, it is important to perform the anticipated hardware updates that will drive the future of mobile application development.
We use different apps for playings games, listening to music, alarm clocks, messaging across multiple platforms like WhatsApp, Wechat and FB Messenger, watching YouTube videos, checking emails and more. As per current records show that around 3.5 billion people worldwide have a smartphone. Dig deeper and we see those of us with 227 years and abuse our smartphones over 250 times a day. As expected, people between the ages of 15 and 26 are even more affected by their phone, about 400 times or more a day. Divide that and we are all connected to our phones in one way or another every two minutes while we are awake.
Giants in the technology industry have focused on these concepts, among other things, in their annual developer conferences. Microsoft began with its Build 2018 developers conference in Seattle, and Google has just launched its annual Google I/O 2018 conference, both companies highlighting the larger roles of AI and IoT in their respective ecosystems. Here we provide a list of important trends in application development.
Artificial intelligence (AI):
Artificial intelligence aims to provide business users with very attractive information through advanced analysis, cognitive interfaces with complex systems and machine learning technologies. With Microsoft Pix, SwiftKey AI and Hound, we see how powerful artificial intelligence is in the mobile application space.
The introduction of cloud computing has expanded the capabilities of applications by improving their storage or computing capacity and is no longer tied to the limits of a smartphone. Applications such as Dropbox have been offering cloud storage solutions for consumers and businesses for many years, adding additional features such as encrypting and sharing files or folders.
Mobile & Desktop Synchronization
It is assumed that mobile applications replace desktop applications, but sometimes the best solution is better integration between applications and desktop operating systems. Windows 10 announced Timeline that aims to communicate effortlessly with iOS and Android phones to provide a more fluid experience when switching from the phone to the office and vice versa. It allows you to send SMS or emails and browse a shared web page from Windows XP, 7, 8 and 10.
Internet-Of-Things (IoT) is a term that describes a device system connected to the cloud that allows applications to operate, automate and monitor remotely. Many IoT products have been introduced by several manufacturers, including connected cameras and smart devices.
Personalization is huge and business demand has grown exponentially.Examples of customization that many of us will understand are Airbnb and Netflix. They control their preferences, the trips they make, the movies they watch and the searches they perform on their platforms, and then adapt the content to their behaviour, to provide a much more personalized and specific experience.
The increase in the popularity of bitcoin has highlighted the importance of blockchain technology, which is the backbone of the cryptocurrency. The blockchain is an open electronic record, continuously updated and shared with the Internet community. It shows all the transactions that occur with cryptocurrencies such as bitcoin so that there is a public record of their movement. Its open nature provides security against fraud and makes it an attractive option for mobile banking and e-commerce applications.
Greater focus on app security:
It has been predicted that up to 80 per cent of applications in the market would not pass a basic safety test. With the amount of personal data and confidential information that many applications must address, security is becoming an important frontier for mobile application developers.
